We’re three journalism students at the University of Houston enrolled in a Data Journalism special topics course at the Jack J. Valenti School of Communication.

Katelyn Kenney

I am a print media journalism student minoring in leadership studies. I’m a member of the Spirit of Houston marching band and Cougar Brass basketball band, and I’m also involved with other campus organizations like Kappa Kappa Psi, Canterbury Episcopal Ministries, and The Cougar. I love cats, dark chocolate, musicals and engaging with all three of those things at the same time.

Emily Burleson

I’m a sophomore pursuing a double major in print journalism and history. I spend most of my time outside class at The Cougar as an editor. I’ve rotated between roles at the copy desk, as News Editor and now as Web Editor. I am obsessed with dogs of all sizes, and I usually spend weekends at home cuddling with my favorites, whose names are Bernie and Josie. I  also enjoy digging into good journalism and trying every dessert and coffee place Houston has to offer.

I am studying Communication and Marketing at the University of Houston. I’m currently a promotions assistant for ESPN Houston, a marketing assistant at the UH Law Center, and the Director of Technology at the American Marketing Association. I was previously an editor and sports writer for The Overtime Page. I have written stories about the University of Houston’s Police Department, homelessness in Houston, and many others.
